1970’s Glam is BACK in the September Issue

The hottest trend by far on the NY Fashion Week fall runways was that hippie chic is back. While today’s designers are taking inspiration from the decade, they are not reproducing them in a literal sense.

Hippie favorites of fringe are given an update with tassels or car wash strips. The glamor of Studio 54 is given a Goth beauty redo. Earthy, muddy color palettes are brought to 2015 with more vivid, rich colors.

Machi Footwear co-starred with fashion designer Byron Lars in a cover story from Stitches Magazine’s Fashion Issue. Our Julia, Roxy and Gucia heels were styled along with looks from Byron Lars and Pilar Cardenas.

How to wear this trend in shoes? Try a platform heel, but not the old, wide, chunky kind. A bit of platform height and a slimmer, but sturdy heel can elongate the leg for a flattering look.

Demure ankle straps from the 1970s can be modernized with multiple straps or zippers as straps for an edgier look.

Some of the funkiest shoes from the disco era had multi-seamed color rainbow details. Today, you can choose a shoe with color-blocked sections in bold, rich colors.

So are you ready to shop for fall? Get your groove on baby!

Fall Trend Preview: Fringe

The clear trend across all fashion categories in fall and resort is fringe! It was the casual chic of fringe vests at festivals like Coachella that got the ball rolling. Soon, we saw it pop up in more elegant evening wear at Pink Tartan and in variations like embroidered hems on the runways of Custo Barcelona at New York Fashion Week. Rebecca Minkoff made fringe a prominent detail across her famous handbags this year. At Miami Fashion Week, fringe was a prominent detail on swimwear and resort fashion, showing the trend will extend well into 2016.

Our design team had a lot of fun creating our fall 2015 collection. The fringe boot is the essential item for autumn. We designed short and tall boots, playing with how fringe was placed, added some studs, etc. Depending on how you wear your fringe, it can highlight your legs as you walk. With short and tall versions of boots, you have options for any type of outfit you want to wear.

Clueless Style

Can you believe it has been two decades since the teen comedy came into our lives? The 90’s tribute to Jane Austen’s Emma was also celebration of the decade’s fashion. Plaids, features and hats made for a well-accessorized wardrobe. Fashion designers Azzedine Alaia, Calvin Klein are all name-checked in film.

The shoes? There was a bit of a retro-chic sensibility in choosing the shoes. Those red heels with started a trend that hasn’t died down today. The rounded toe Mary-Jane style heels was sexy and coy. Patent leather was the look as well as the color silver being a big hit.

Here is the Machi Footwear collection of updated Clueless inspired shoes :

Singer Janelle Monae and actress Amanda Seyfried wore our favorite look; gold strappy heels! The man behind both shoes was none other than Christian Louboutin.

Meanwhile, shoe designer Tabitha Simmons won Accessory Designer of the year. Model Lily Aldridge wore a sexy black pair of Simmon’s shoes on the CFDA Awards red carpet as the date of fashion designer Thakoon.
