Blogger Spotlight: Ms. Fabulous

mariana leung

Today we bring you our editor Mariana Leung who publishes Ms. Fabulous. During New York Fashion Week, Miami Fashion Week and other top events you will find her embedded in the photographer’s pit to bring you the top trends and insider fashion scoop. Get to know her better:

Where do you live?

New York City! I have lived here for over 20 years working, breathing, designing, photographing and writing about fashion.

What do you write about?

Designers I think are doing something interesting. People in fashion who are passionate about their work or a worthy cause. Creative people who are doing something inspirational to designers. Beauty and style products that I love.

Who were your favorite designers at NYFW?

My favorite presentations this season were Reem Acra, Zang Toi, Theia and Vivienne Tam.

Describe your personal shoe style?

Heels that are comfortable are the Holy Grail for me. Machi Footwear has great styles taken straight from the runways. Even the tallest heels are surprisingly wearable. That’s perfect for my red carpet trips at Fashion Week events!

Machi at NYFW: Irina Shabayeva

irina shabayeva ss16

Are you a fan of Project Runway? Season 6 winner Irina Shabayeva gave fans an edgier street-wise streetwear collection at her NY Fashion Week fashion how last week. She played with proportions on the classic hoodie, making them into a mini-dress with extra wide ribbed hems. There were asymmetrical hems in vegan leather. Strategic cut-outs edges in metal hardware and a fabulous angel wing print were a part of the designer’s line-up this season.

Machi Footwear supplied all of our edgy variations on boots to accompany Shabayeva’s collection. We had the snapped heeled Hanona bootie that created waved lines that echoed the shapes of her hems. Our Finn caged lattice boot was a popular choice this fall on and off the runway. Of course fringe is everywhere this season in our studded Peri boot.

We are used to Irina Shabayeva sending out dramatic gowns on the catwalk. Celebrity fans of hers include Carrie Underwood and Selena Gomez. We already know she has conquered the red carpet. Now the designer is showing us she conquers the sidewalks too.

Blogger Spotlight: Lindsey Puls

Machi Footwear LOVES bloggers! We had a chance to meet up with a few of our favorites during NY Fashion Week. We thought you might want to get to know them better. First up is Lindsey Puls of Have Clothes Will Travel. She looked very pretty wearing a lace dress with a cream handbag and our floral print MIYA-3 heels after the Angel Sanchez fashion show.

Where do you live?

Princeton, New Jersey is currently my home base. However, that location is always changing. My husband and I are constantly on the move for his job, so we are bouncing from one end of the country/world to the next. (Our next big move will be after the holidays.)

What do you write about?

Have Clothes, Will Travel (my blog) is a mix of my outfit and travel posts. My outfit posts can range anywhere from evening gowns to geeky Star Wars dresses to sweaters and jeans… I never limit it myself when it comes

to personal style. I like to let my readers know how to recreate the looks, and what I think of the quality of the clothing I’m wearing, and what kind of event I’m wearing the outfit for.

As for the travel posts, those have been anywhere from Rome to India to fun things to do right here on the East Coast (I’m even working on a shark cage diving post from Cape Cod!). I’ll share fun little tidbits about the trips, and give advice to anyone looking to take a trip there themselves.

What has been your favorite part about New York Fashion Week this season?

Actually being able to attend it! Haha. Having not lived in the area very long, this was the first NYFW I was able to attend.

As far as shows go, though, Rodarte had my favorite spring collection. I’m still dying over those Mary Janes!

Who is your favorite designer?

Oh, that’s a tough one. But probably Caroline Herrera. I love the timelessness of her collections.

Describe your personal shoe style?

Quirky yet classic. I adore shoes that have a retro vibe to them, but I’m also not afraid to rock an eye-catching stiletto with a bright floral print.

Machi at NYFW: AUTUMNLIN KIETPONGLERT

autumn lin fashion show

We love scoping out the shows at NY Fashion Week. Machi Footwear loves working with designers directly for the runway even more! Check out Autumn Lin Kietponglerts collection for NYFW. You might know her as one of the top 3 finalists from Bravo TV and Rihanna‘s competition program “Styled to Rock”. She is also a multi-award winner from fashion competitions all over the world. Her signature detail is her manipulations with zippers.

Machi Footwear paired our edgy black Boadan and Gucia heels along with our Finn caged booties with Autumn Lin’s sculpted punk glam looks on her runway. The models worked the look with the perfect attitude. All-black ensembles may seem simple, but the basic color allows for dramatic silhouettes, textures and design lines.

Pop divas like Cher and Kylie Minogue already count themselves as fans of Autumn Lin Kietponglert and so do we!

NYFW Spring 2016 Report: Black White & Primary Colors

daniel silverstain ss16

nyfw blk white primary colorsIt is only two days into New York Fashion Week, but an early trend has emerged. Spring 2016 is about featuring bright, clean black and white silhouettes accented with primary colors. In designer Malan Breton’s case, he used the combination of black or white with color-blocked red, blue or green. For designer Daniel Silverstain, he used the color palette in retro pattern prints or with black or white garments with a pop color accessory. The shoes on the models followed suit. Models wore black or white heels that had primary colored straps to add interest to the foot.

Designing into the next season, you can easily adapt classic silhouettes or bodies in black or white. You can the update it with a pop color accessory or create a contrast detail in a primary color like a collar, a sleeve cuff or a hem.

1970’s Glam is BACK in the September Issue

The hottest trend by far on the NY Fashion Week fall runways was that hippie chic is back. While today’s designers are taking inspiration from the decade, they are not reproducing them in a literal sense.

Hippie favorites of fringe are given an update with tassels or car wash strips. The glamor of Studio 54 is given a Goth beauty redo. Earthy, muddy color palettes are brought to 2015 with more vivid, rich colors.

Machi Footwear co-starred with fashion designer Byron Lars in a cover story from Stitches Magazine’s Fashion Issue. Our Julia, Roxy and Gucia heels were styled along with looks from Byron Lars and Pilar Cardenas.

How to wear this trend in shoes? Try a platform heel, but not the old, wide, chunky kind. A bit of platform height and a slimmer, but sturdy heel can elongate the leg for a flattering look.

Demure ankle straps from the 1970s can be modernized with multiple straps or zippers as straps for an edgier look.

Some of the funkiest shoes from the disco era had multi-seamed color rainbow details. Today, you can choose a shoe with color-blocked sections in bold, rich colors.

So are you ready to shop for fall? Get your groove on baby!
